COSATT Conference Opens with Focus on EU’s Role in South Asia’s Stability
Kathmandu, March 31 – The COSATT Conference on “South Asia’s Stability in a Turbulent World: The European Union’s Role in Shaping Regional Resilience” began with discussions on the region’s evolving security and economic landscape. Organized by the Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks (COSATT) in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), the event has brought together diplomats, security experts, and scholars to explore collaborative strategies for resilience amid global uncertainty.
The opening ceremony featured a keynote address by Mr. Thomas Millar, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the EU Delegation to Nepal. The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey, Convenor of COSATT, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in maintaining stability in South Asia.
Delivering the chief guest’s address, Ambassador Shanker Das Bairagi, Nepal’s former National Security Advisor and Foreign Secretary, highlighted the strategic shifts affecting the region and the need for stronger diplomatic and security frameworks. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Andreas Klein, Director of the Political Dialogue Asia Programme at KAS Singapore.
The conference is expected to delve deeper into regional security, trade partnerships, and the EU’s role in shaping policies that can strengthen South Asia’s resilience in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
