In this episode of the RFN podcast, we are making sense of the multifaceted relationship between the EU and Nepal. The relationship, established in 1973, is multifaceted and encompasses political dialogue, trade, development cooperation, and humanitarian aid.
The podcast dives deeper into EU-Nepal political ties, economic cooperation through trade, and joint efforts towards sustainable development and a green economy.
The EU aims to support Nepal's transition towards peace, stability, democracy, human rights, and sustainable economic and social development.
Key themes include the evolving political partnership, preferential trade access for Nepal, a strong focus on sustainable development and the green economy, disaster preparedness and humanitarian assistance, and cooperation in sectors like energy, human rights, education, civil society, and agriculture.
While Nepal benefits from tariff-free access to the EU market, it has yet to fully capitalize on this opportunity. The EU is actively supporting Nepal's graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status while ensuring a sustainable transition.
